About

Vince Deming

Hi, I'm Vince Deming, a licensed counselor. I've been fascinated by psychology for as long as I can remember. Even as a kid, I was always curious about how people think and why they behave the way they do. That curiosity eventually led me to study the human mind and behavior in depth.

In my mid-20s, I experienced a reversion to the Catholic faith that inspired me to explore religious life. I spent four years as a Carmelite friar, immersing myself in Carmelite spirituality, which emphasizes a deep, prayerful connection with God. During that time, I remained connected to the field of psychology because I wanted to support people on their personal journeys, regardless of where I ultimately ended up.

Eventually, I realized that while religious life wasn't my long-term path, my passion for helping others through counseling remained strong. That realization brought me to where I am today—working as a therapist who integrates psychological insight with spiritual understanding to support those seeking healing and growth.

Education

I completed my Master’s degree in counseling and my Bachelor’s degree in theology at the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio. The coursework and training for my counseling degree were particularly careful to integrate the psychological and spiritual components of the human person.

Experience and Approach

  • I mainly work out of a framework of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and have completed foundational and advanced IFS training through Souls and Hearts and IFSCA (IFS Canada’s organization Stepping Stones). I also rely heavily on existential therapies of Logotherapy and Affirmation Therapy (Conrad Baars) which focuses on meaning, value, and self-acceptance with the practical approaches of Cognitive-Behavior (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused therapies to address barriers.
  • I have been working in the mental health field for 10 years, mainly with adults but also with some children and adolescents.
  • I have extensive experience in Carmelite Spirituality, characterized as an intense thirst for a direct experience of God through prayer.

Some of my focus areas

  • Depression/melancholy
  • Anxiety/Panic
  • Trauma
  • Relationship issues/boundaries
  • Spiritual issues/development
  • Insomnia
  • Addictions, notably pornography
