Dr. Marcel Lanahan

Hello, I'm Marcel Lanahan, licensed counselor. I offer faithful Catholics like you help you can trust, by phone or video conference.

For the past 13 years I've worked hard to grow in knowledge of the human heart and skill in psychotherapy, so that I can help you quickly face and overcome whatever is bothering you at this point in your life.

I grew up Catholic, followed my brothers through a Notre Dame engineering program, and then....

My heart rebelled!...It didn't want to follow the script I had laid out for it!

As one of the fighting Irish, the last thing I thought I would be fighting was my own heart. I had no idea what I should do next.

I therefore spent much of my 20s doing service work in various settings across the country, hoping to find a vocation that “clicked.” I even spent a year living religious life. It seemed that, no matter what I tried, my heart wasn't in it. As a result, major life decisions just didn’t seem to catch.

After nearly a decade of discernment, I was fed up. So I went on retreat. I took with me a burning desire to finally discern and follow my vocation.

Sure enough, during a grace-filled moment, my own unique calling within the Church finally came to me. Catholic counseling! I felt inspired to totally dedicate myself to studying the human condition, so that I could offer a special expertise to those wrestling with their own hearts.

After getting a Master's at Franciscan University of Steubenville (2011), I practiced for a number of years under some of the best Catholic clinicians in the country (Immaculate Heart of Mary Counseling Center in Lincoln, NE).

Along the way I met my amazing wife, and discovered my vocation to marriage and family life. We have been blessed with 5 boys who bring us much joy (and sometimes frustration!) every day. As I live out my God-given vocations of counseling and married life, I discover more and more how married couples, kids, and parents need support too.  We live in a world that is constantly changing - not always for the better.

While I currently live in a small town in Western New York, I know there are Catholics everywhere looking for a competent, faith-filled counselor to help them with the problems of life. That is why I set up a practice dedicated to finding and offering faithful Catholics like you the help you need, using phone and video conferencing.
